Lemi National Cement Factory

Lemi Industrial Park, Amhara Region

Overview

Lemi National Cement Factory is a flagship project within Ethiopia's industrial transformation agenda. Situated in the 270-hectare Lemi Industrial Park, this cutting-edge facility is a $2.2 billion joint venture with West International Holding, designed to address over 50% of Ethiopia's cement demand.

History

NCSC's domestic distribution network ensures that our cement products, including Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) and Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC), reach construction sites, retailers, and industrial clients across Ethiopia. Leveraging the strategic locations of our Lemi and Dire Dawa factories, we have established a comprehensive network of distribution centers to serve urban and rural markets efficiently.

Technology & Innovation

The factory employs advanced dry-process kilns and vertical roller mills, ensuring energy efficiency and low emissions. Automated quality control systems monitor every stage of production, guaranteeing consistent cement quality. The facility also integrates waste heat recovery systems to power auxiliary operations.

Economic & Community Impact

Lemi employs over 800 skilled workers, with 90% being local hires. The factory has spurred infrastructure development in the Amhara Region, including roads and power lines. It supports local farmers by providing affordable gypsum for soil enhancement and contributes to housing development through prefabricated components.

Future Plans

Plans are underway to expand clinker production to 15,000 TPD by 2027. The factory aims to introduce low-carbon cement variants and increase renewable energy usage. A dedicated training center is also planned to upskill local talent for the cement industry.
